In this week’s “A Reagan Forum” we go back to February 25, 2011 when United States Senator Scott Brown came to the Reagan Library to discuss his latest book, Against All Odds: My Life of Hardship, Fast Breaks and Second Chances. In early 2010, during a special election following the death of Senator Ted Kennedy, who had previously held the Senate seat for almost a half century, Scott Brown won, becoming Massachusetts next Senator. Scott Brown was a die-hard anti-tax, anti-deficit, pro-business Republican and he won the seat from one of the staunchest of liberals in Massachusetts.

Ronald Reagan was convinced that US defenses had been allowed to deteriorate during the 1970s and that this condition had left the United States vulnerable. President Reagan sought a substantial increase in US defense spending, hoping to restore some programs canceled by Carter, such as the neutron bomb (the enhanced radiation weapon), and the B-1 bomber.
